Dear Neil, My most sincerest condolences, I had communicated with George recently, I realized he was sick when he announced John Petrucci at his guitar clinic, although I didn't realize it was George until later. Do you remember Marie? Her son James found this site for us, he is my son's best friend, they are both 16. I feel utterly devastated, George was so very kind, and what bravery, I lost one of my two closest friends in May(Marie is the other friend). I have been thinking of all you guys recently, probably as my family(husband and son) have a band, my husband is he drummer and my son is the guitarist, our son is an autism survivor, and his musical gift is astounding, I had mentioned Connor(my son) to George and he was so encouraging, it is too sad!!! Neil, would it be possible to have a copy of the eulogy? My email address is pittswest@iinet.net.au. This sad girl is signing off now, Love to you all, Debi xxxxxxx

Sorry to have to write this but our great friend, great frontman of Chalice and simply great guy, George Heathcote died on October 6th 2009 after fighting cancer for many years. Les, Ian and I [from Chalice], flew to Sydney for his funeral and I had the honour of delivering the eulogy. He'll be sorely missed and he was truly one of a kind. R.I.P.

Oddly, I just picked up a copy of Chalice's 1974 single "Ebenezer" at a record shop in Los Angeles. This post is the most informative thing (actually the only thing) I've seen online about the band. "Ebenezer" is a really good track as well, kind of boogie/powerpop with a little slide guitar thrown in.

Thanks Marty, but the Doobies were great despite their pyrotechnics setting a PA stack on fire. We had 4 guys pretending to play brass with us, to equal the Doobies line up, due to Union rules. It was a huge gig and we got Jon English to stand up and acknowledge the crowd - he'd just produced "Overflow' and was in the audience - and this was one of the biggest shows we ever played.
Hi Gerry, What a fantastic surprise to hear from you. I clearly remember playing at the Kelmscott Hotel way back in 1973 / 1974 and that was our first experience of the "Sunday session" - something unknown in England. From memory, the gig ended at 6.30pm and you could buy a couple of bottles of beer, but no more, to take home afterwards! Thanks for remembering us. Neil Scott,

I watched Chalice blow The Doobie Brothers off the stage at the Wacca. Long time ago now. They did a great excerpt from Tommy.

I remember Chalice very well back in the early 70's when they played at the then, Kelmscott Hotel (Late 1973 to 1976) southeast of Perth. My father owned the hotel and I also worked there. Many a good Sunday afternoon session was entertained by this fantastic band.
I have a copy on plastic of Overflow still and in good condition. They were very good memories to me and I enjoyed their music so much. If only we could turn the clock back.

Wow, memories of childhood in Oz in the 70's, I now live in the UK. Saw Chalice many times at the Sunday session in pubs, kids were allowed there, and at various other gigs in and around Perth, WA. They were a great band and great muscians. I believe there may even be a copy of Overflow up in the loft, it's probably worth something now?
